Ramshaw Rocks Tank - Blackshaw Moor
History
“Just a few miles from Macclesfield, nestled within the open moors, lies an abandoned Ministry of Defence firing range. The 6.23-kilometer-long range has been inactive for some time, but remnants of outbuildings and a decommissioned US M4 Sherman tank, the most widely used medium tank by the United States and Western Allies in World War II remain. This particular tank, after service in Afghanistan, was brought back to the range for target practice. Military warning signs and the red flags that would have flown during live firing/testing are still present”.
