Flag Lane Baths - Crewe
History
“The former Crewe Baths, a striking example of Art Deco architecture, stood as a testament to the town's social and architectural history. Opened in November 1937, the Flag Lane Baths served the community for nearly eight decades, replacing older, less adequate facilities and becoming a vital hub for recreation and health. The building’s distinctive facade, characteristic of its era, concealed a functional and well-planned interior. Inside, the baths boasted a main swimming pool, a learners' pool, and often, features like diving boards and a spectator balcony, all meticulously tiled. Beyond mere functionality, the baths became a social cornerstone, where generations of Crewe residents learned to swim and participated in community life. After its closure in 2016, the building's future has been a subject of much debate, with initial proposals for a community center being scrapped. Cheshire east council have recently rubber stamped plans for an "Alternative Provision School".
