Hanging Flat Mine - Stoney Middleton
History
“A relatively small mine in Derbyshire where Lead and later on Fluorspar were mined. The mine was worked for lead in the early 1800's and Fluorspar in its later years until it was closed for good in 1987. In 1992 the mine was used for filming a cave rescue scene for an ITV soap 'A Peak Practice', the episode rightly named ''Light at the end of the tunnel'', remains of this can be found by the large polystyrene boulders left behind. The mine runs for around 300 ft until it reaches a nearby rake then splits off into two drives, a lot of adits have been sealed up and collapsed, there is a small shaft to a lower level we dropped around 10m below”.
